QUTE.sk at OpenSlava 2024: Shaping Tomorrow’s Quantum Security

The 12th edition of OpenSlava, held on October 16-17, 2024, at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, once again proved to be an extraordinary gathering of innovators, technologists, and enthusiasts. This year, QUTE.sk – Slovak National Center for Quantum Technologies was proud to be part of it. Partnering with Accenture, one of our industry partner, we had the opportunity to showcase our latest advancements in quantum technologies and engage with both seasoned professionals and curious newcomers alike.

Demystifying Quantum Security: Workshop by Gilberto Borges

A standout moment at the event was the workshop led by Gilberto Borges together with Younes Benamara, which focused on Quantum Communication, Security, and Quantum Key Distribution (QKD). Tailored for the IT community, the workshop broke down complex topics like secure communication protocols and quantum encryption into digestible, actionable insights. The audience appreciated Gilberto’s engaging style and the clarity of the presentation, especially given the critical importance of data security in today’s tech landscape. The workshop left attendees with a greater understanding of how quantum technology can revolutionize data security. The overwhelmingly positive feedback we received spoke volumes about its impact on participants.

Unpacking the Power of Light: Saeid Salari’s Talk

Saeid Salari also delivered an intriguing talk, Quantum and Us: An Adventure into the Unknown, where he delved into the fundamental properties of light and its potential applications in quantum coding. He illustrated just how intertwined light is with the future of secure communication. His presentation offered a captivating glimpse into how the physics of light is paving the way for quantum technologies, leaving the audience both inspired and intrigued.

Real 2-qubits Quantum Computer: Buzz at the Booth

Our booth, co-hosted with Aricoma, was a hub of activity throughout the entire event. We showcased not only the Gemini Mini Pro desktop quantum computer but also presented the skQCI project – Slovak National Quantum Communication Infrastructure. The curiosity extended far beyond these showcases, with visitors eager to explore the fundamental principles of quantum mechanics, the mathematics behind it, and the real-world applications of quantum computing. The level of engagement was remarkable, with the booth serving as a bridge between the quantum research community and the IT sector, particularly in the context of developing secure communication networks.

Looking Ahead to the year 2025

As we wrap up our participation in OpenSlava 2024, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Accenture and the entire organizing team for this fantastic opportunity to connect with the tech community and exchange ideas. We also want to thank all the participants who joined us throughout the event. It’s been an inspiring two days, and we’re already looking forward to continuing the conversation next year during the UNESCO International Year of Quantum Technology and Science in 2025. We can’t wait to continue this journey and contribute even more to the growing quantum technology landscape
